Made using wood from sustainable sources, basswood is an ideal material for manufacturing interior plantation shutters.
Available in a range of ten stained finishes and five shades of white and neutral paints, it's a lightweight wood with a uniform woodgrain, which looks lovely when choosing shutters with a woodstain finish.
Basswood is also particularly resistant to warping, so is an ideal choice in terms of durability.
Lockwood shutters
A medium quality wood with a lower price level, the nature of Lockwood's grain means that shutters made from this choice of material are offered only in a more limited range of five white and neutral solid paint finishes.
The standard of craftsmanship applied during the manufacturing process in terms of design and construction is just as high, however, as for our featured supplier's basswood shutters.
Lockwood therefore represents a good compromise if you're seeking lower cost shutters that are still made from real timber.
Craftwood shutters
The most affordable of our featured supplier's choices, Craftwood is a form of light density fibreboard (LDF), a composite material with laminate covering. Whilst Craftwood shutters weigh more than their real wood counterparts, they're extremely hardwearing and easy to maintain.
Craftwood shutters are also very easy to clean and resistant to moisture, which makes them particularly well suited for use in humid areas like bathrooms or kitchens.
